Watercolour with ink refills – Craft and Connect April challenge

Hey friends, how are you? I thought I’d share another inspiration post in line with this month’s Craft & Connect challenge theme: spring. For this card, I’ve followed the colour scheme on the mood board.

I started out by adding some double sided adhesive to the back of an A2 panel of white card. I then die cut Concord & 9th’s Empire Inlay Card Front die from the card (with the adhesive on the reverse). I took the card panel out of the die and kept all of the die cut pieces in place.

I wanted to experiment with my ink refills from Concord & 9th to some watercoloring. To stick with the colour theme, I used HoneysuckleMushroom, and then mixed Oceanside & Buttercup together to make a yellow-green shade.

I added a couple of drops of each colour to my glass craft mat and watered them down using my water brush, to get the shade/intensity I wanted. I used a more concentrated version of the Honeysuckle to get the darker pink from the colour scheme, and a watered down version for the lighter shade.

I painted the stripes/chevrons in alternate colours, then left to dry. Once the panel was dry, I removed the release paper from the die cut pieces, leaving the frame with the backing on, so I could use it as a guide to line up the pieces on my card panel. I pressed them down to secure them, then removed the frame so only the inner pieces were left. I LOVE the dimension and texture this gives, it looks amazing in real life!

To finish my card, I added a sentiment I had in my stash – the “hi” from Concord & 9th’s Just Say More dies. I’d die cut the shadow from black card, and the word from white (twice, and layered them together for dimension). I finally added a few Dew Drops using liquid glue.

I hope that was helpful – if you’re a visual learner, I’m hoping to upload a video of the process to the Craft and Connect YouTube channel shortly, so stay tuned for that!
