MFT Card Design Superstar – Clean & Simple category

Hi friends, I’m back with my final entry to this year’s MFT card design competition, and this one is for the Clean & Simple Genius category. I was hugely honoured to have been one of the winners in this category last year, so the pressure has been on to come up with something to rival last year’s card! I’ll admit, I have made a bunch of cards, but this is the one I feel fits the bill the most (and was the first idea that I came up with).

To make my card, I did some simple masking – I stamped my Super Boy in MFT Extreme Black ink (which is alcohol marker friendly) on to my panel, then stamped it again on to some low-tack masking tape and fussy cut. I added my mask over the superhero on my card panel, and then stamped the background image over the top. The background cling is called City Block Background, and I stamped it in a soft grey, as not to detract from the solo image on the page, which I wanted to be the main focus.

I coloured the superhero with Copic Markers in the following colours:

Body: YR27, Y38, Y15

Cape and Boots: B39, B37, B34, B32

Hair: E27, E25, E23

Skin: E44, E43, E42, E41 (R20 cheeks)

And of course, I finished off with some white gel pen accents using my favourite ever gel pen (I use the 0.8mm size).

To finish my card, I stamped a sentiment centrally underneath the superhero – this one is from the Unicorns and Glitter stamp set.

So – good luck to everyone this year, I can’t wait to find out who the winners are! I don’t feel my chances are very strong given some of the absolutely stunning pieces of art that have been submitted so far, but I’m just happy to be part of the fun!
