Outside the Box – Christmas Nativity scene

Hey friends, I’m back today with another card for the MFT Stamps Card Design Superstar competition – this time for the “Box Card Master” category! I had a clear idea in my mind of what I wanted to create, and whilst fairly clean and simple, I feel it has impact – so I’m hoping you like it!

I started out by creating the backdrop for my scene. I wanted to make a silhouette Nativity scene with a dramatic sky to add a pop of colour. So, I pulled out my alcohol inks for the first time in ages and had a play!

I used Yupo paper, and I added alcohol blending solution to it (quite liberally). I then added in just a few drops of Boysenberry ink, and used my air blower to blow the ink around the Yupo. I added a bit more blending solution to help it move around more, then added a few drops of Vineyard and repeated the process until I was happy. I made a couple of backgrounds, so I’d have a few to choose from.

Next, I die-cut my box card pieces from sturdy white card (I used Neenah Classic Crest in 110lb), and die cut a panel from the alcohol ink background. I assembled the box using double sided tape, as I find this to be the strongest adhesive for box cards.

I then die cut all of the nativity pieces using the Nativity Silhoutte Die-Namics, from the same white card. I added them to my scene with liquid glue, and for the smaller pieces like the lambs, and the hill, I first glued them to a piece of acetate, and then glued the acetate to the scene, hidden beneath the surface, so that none of the small pieces would end up getting lost.

To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment from the Happy Holly-Days stamp set and added it to the front of the box card.

I have a reel over on my Insta, if you’d like to see the card come together!

I hope you like this card – again, it’s up against some serious competition, and I wish all the entrants the best of luck!!
