Sending you Koality Hugs!

Hey crafty friends, thanks for joining me on my blog again today. I’m sharing this koala bear card that I made for my husband for Father’s Day, and it’s also my entry for this month’s Heffy Doodle challenge (celebration cards).

I made my background by applying Wow embossing ink through Heffy Doodle’s broad strokes stencil, then applying Obsidian embossing powder to the sticky ink. I heat set with my heat gun, and repeated two or three times for good coverage.

Next, I die cut the word “hugs” from HD’s Slimline Quartet die set, three times from black cardstock, and layered them together to make them nice and substantial. I added white gel pen accents to the word to make it look a little shiny.

I die cut a tag using HD’s Tag Shaker die set, and on this I stamped the sentiment “sending you koality” with Versafine Onyx black ink from the Koality Hugs stamp set. I masked off the word “hugs” from the end of the sentiment using HD blue tape, so it wouldn’t get inked up, as I already had the die-cut “hugs” to add on.

I stamped one of the koala images from the same stamp set above the sentiment and coloured with Copic markers. The colours I used were C5, C3, C1 and C0. For the tummies and ears, I used E43 and E41, and I added some rosy cheeks with R20.

I tied some black and white twine around the tag to make a bow, then added it to the heat embossed background with foam tape.  I then adhered the “hugs” letters at the bottom, using liquid glue.

As a final touch, I also stamped another koala inside the card with the sentiment “Happy Father’s Day” from my stash (I think it’s an Avery Elle stamp).

I decided to also create a matching shaker tag, so I die cut the tag front and back using the same Tag Shaker die set, and two of the stitched hearts in black, which I added around the punched hole, front and back. I glued some acetate to the reverse of the front tag, placed Heffy Doodle thin foam strips around the edges, and filled the middle with grey and white sequins, before sealing it shut with the back die-cut tag. I added another koala to the front, and used the little die that looks like a banner from the Tag Shaker set to cut a small banner, to which I added the same Father’s Day sentiment as I used for the inside of the card. Again, I finished up the tag with some black and white twine.

Thanks again for being here, and please do subscribe to my blog to have it sent to your inbox each time I have a new post!
