You Take the Cake

Hi everyone, how have you been? I’m so excited to be able to share with you that Wow! Embossing asked me to be a guest designer for their January release, and I had lots of fun playing with the goodies that they sent me! If you’re a Wow! fan (or even if you’ve never done any heat embossing before), you can check out the launch show on the Craft Show (there’ll be a catch-up option on the website – the original shows were at 9am and 2pm (BST) on Saturday 29th January). So much inspiration from the amazing design team!

One of the new release products is this super cool Trio of embossing powders called Birthday Cake. The Trio comprises Cake, Blue Icing and Candles. Such an unusual but striking colour combination! Also, the powders are textured, so they add that extra bit of interest to your project.

For my card, I die cut a panel of white card using my A2 stitched rectangle dies from Pink and Main (I think my panel was 5″ x 3.75″). I then die cut the “You Take the Cake” bold sentiment (from My Favorite Things) out of the panel.

I cut a piece of card big enough to cover the sentiment, and applied Wow! Embossing ultra slow drying embossing ink to the entire panel, and sprinkled each of the three colours from the Birthday Cake Trio in rows over the panel. I heat set the powders with my heat gun, then attached the embossed panel to the reverse of my rectangle panel, so that the embossing could be seen through the sentiment.

To finish this super simple card, I attached the panel to an A2 (5.5″ x 4.25″) white card panel with foam tape for some nice dimension, and I was done! I considered adding some bling, but to be honest, I didn’t want to detract from the trio of colours which were the star of the show!

Thanks for dropping by, and see you again soon! Full list of supplies below:
